    The return...

    Hey!

Who's in here that I know?

It's been a while, quite a while, since I poked my nose in here last, but I'm back with a vengence and a new profile.

Later this year I'm heading South to attempt to be the first person to walk from the coast of Antarctica to the South Pole and back with no support or assistance. Whilst we're doing it we'll be raising funds for the British Heart Foundation, and we're about to launch a national adventure based health initiative called the Great Heart Challenge to every school in the UK.

We could do with all the support we can get, so please take a look at the website, sign up to the alerts system (on the website!) and join the Last Great Challenge facebook page.

    Aaaah.... nice to be back!

     Have fun!

    Wahey Milesey.

    How's it going Justin mate?

You've not missed much to be honest, there's only a handful of the old regs left I'm afraid : (  Me, Taz, Shaun and Carl05 are still active, Miss V and Flamer drop in now and again. But the likes of Tahlia, Lazlow, Kensai and Cody have all moved on to greener pastures.

The weather over the last month or so will have been great training for your challenge pmsl.

Nice to hear from you again homie, and good luck with the trek ; )

    Re: The return...

    Thanks guys!

You must be kidding about the weather - FAR too cold to actually be outdoors training!

Down in my neck of the woods (Devon, not France!) the snow was just deep enough to stop you getting around, but not quie deep enough to get out and train in.

We'll be off up to Norway shortly to do a little training - plenty of skiing, putting the tent up in cold windy places, lighting the stove, practising drills...

If anyone wants to join in with the fun, add me on Facebook or join the Last Great Challenge facebook page.

    Catch you soon!

    Just

PS. We're launching a national health and fitness initiative for schools across the UK shotly - watch the website for details of the Great Heart Challenge

    Re: The return...

Someone on my Cocker Forum's daughter, (How are the dogs BTW?), is going to do a 45 day hiking tour of Africa & asked for tips of hardening feet in preparation.  You're without doubt the man to ask!  If you have any other tips & advice let me know & I'll pass it on.

Good luck with your venture, I'll be following your progress.

    Nutter!

    Re: The return...

Is that a medical opinion Taz?

45 days in Africa? Sounds great! Where abouts is she heading?

Feel free to pass on my email address Chap, it's always a pleasure to help out when I can. Surgical spirit applied to the skin a couple of times a day for as long as possible before she goes will help, but more importantly, make sure that the boots fit, she wears good quality socks (and keeps them clean! Several pairs and change them frequently throughout the day to make sure that her feel stay dry - wet feet are soft and skin tears), cleans her feet at the end of the day and dries them properly.

Being totally blunt though, it's more about hardening the mind than the feet! Accept thay you are probably going to get blisters, accept that they're going to hurt, accept that the treatment is painful - but know that it's only 45 days, and it's NOT going to kill you!

If you're on facebook we've got a Last Great Challenge pae on there, or you can sign up to the alerts system on the website which nudges you if we make any changes.

    Re: The return...

Cheers Taz... the more followers and supported we get the better.

Training like a mad thing at the mo and shedding weight like crazy! To make our bodies as efficient as possible pulling the sleds, ie. burning up as few calories as possible,  we have to make sure that we carry no unecessary weight. For John it's not such a problem; he's a runner so he's used to being skinny, but for me, I'm having to adjust to the fact that I'm having to lose muscle weight - I've spent bloody years putting it on and now I have to get rid of it all  - harsh, but the best way to be effective.

My diet at the mo is quite lean and I'm training for anywhere from two to eight hours in a session - quite punishing, but I'm sure it'll pay off.

     My email address is justin@lastgreatchallenge.com
