right got pulled by unmarked cops. was followin them doin bout 80 and they put some shoe down and went to 90-100. they pulled me n said that i was to close and speedin. they didnt give me a ticket and dont have me on camera. so does any one know where i stand with this and what my options are. spoke to a couple of guys n they say nothin will happen. would be appretiated if any one could shed some light on the subject. 

sounds like they just gave you a warning, in theory they can't do anything as they were also breaking the law...

Basically... with out a camera in the rear they have no evidence. Speeding prosecutions will not go through on word of mouth only. The court will throw it out unless you did something serious (killed someone, crashed whatever) If they didnt give you the "right to remain silent" speech then you didnt do anything bad. If they gave you a bit of paper with "police caution" on they you got away with it. Mainly because you could have been matching your speed to theirs without looking at your speedo. So a subconscious effort to keep up made you speed, only because they accelerated.


So...........................................................You got away Scot-Free... well done :P

Using 'I was just keeping up with them, so it was their fault' ain't gonna get you out of a conviction.  You've got a speedo, you should use it.  I always do, so I know exactly when I'm doing 110-120mph down the M40!

And FYI - if they pull you up and give you a ticket, they don't need video evidence otherwise how come speeding tickets have been around a lot longer than video cameras?  The only time 'mechanical evidence' (camera, speed gun etc.) is required is if it was a policeman on his own (e.g. motorcyle).  Otherwise, if two policeman are of the opinion that you were speeding, this is admissable as evidence.

Having said that, the fact that they didn't give you a ticket means you've got away with a friendly warning - lucky bastid.  Still, I've been very sensible and my licence is now clean again......

Mechanical evidence is NOT needed if there are two policeman who are of the opinion that a driver was speeding.  They don't even need to have been following in a car and having read a speedometer.  If two policemen are on foot patrol and a car goes past and they are both of the opinion that the driver was exceeding the speed limit then that is admissable as evidence.  They are deemed to be Expert Witnesses.
