Alright guys 

My name is Sam Dailly, and I am a 2nd year student at Keele University studying Media, Culture and Communications and Sociology. I am also a car lover and frequent reader. Which brings me to my dissertation. My research questions is: To what extent are car subcultures represented negatively in the mass media?

This is not your usual research proposal, however, it is a topic close to my heart. And I'm sure close to yours aswel. There are many different types of car subculture, and I intend to look at them all as fairly as possible. However, as an enthusiast and owner of modified cars, I thought that I should see what people like yourselves think (not to mention the fact that Fastcar is part of the mass media and in that sense, you are very relevant). I want to examine this issue in terms of: age, geographical location, association with different forms of crime, and so on.

My question is basically: what are your thoughts on the topic of car subcultures? And do you think they are unfairly/incorrectly represented in the media?

i agree with laz, a small minority gives the rest a bad name it is the name with ethnic minorities some people have a bad view on muslims (for example) becase some of the extremists but the majority of them are nice people so its just a few retards that give the rest a bad name

it reallys fucks me off when we are all seen as speeding idiots i for one rarely speed as i usually have my kids in the car and will not put there lifes at risk just to race some idiot in his 1 litre corsa the reason i got into modifying is because i LOVE biulding things and making stuff especially tinkering around with my install just to get the sound just right my car is unique and the way i want it not some run of the mill shitted out l reg clio covered in rust i take pride in the fact its allways clean tidy and running as renault intended and refuse to be branded as a "boy" racer because of a few idiots who like hitting roundabouts at 50 odd mph

sorry if you are in these catergories but i drive on the motorways a fair amount and the ones that speed the most are the vans and and biusness men in thier bms and mercs

the record for breaking the speed limit was a bloke in a porshe hire car!!!! a fair few cars here could hit the speed that he was doing

22 year old female nuneaton uk! yeah to tell you the truth i couldnt give 2 shits what people think about me or my car! i like it! i some times go to cruises and stuff! im not a girl racer but love my car lots lol! so as for your question who cares fuck um all! each to there own! bollocks to the media!

i hate it wen i get called a girl racer just coz ivgot a set of alloys n tinted windows, the police have a total bad attitude with u- i was pulled over in my mums standard car and the cops was nice as pie but wen i got pulled in the audi the otha day the copper barked orders at me to turn the wheels on my car so he could check the tread etc...i find buisness men in the big cars are worse at driving than me , always trying to race me just so they can feel good bout themselves... i just happen to like going to car meets and modifyed cars- im not an irresponsible girl racer as 9/10 i got my babies in the back wiv me

Maybe you're a crap driver?  I have only ever been stopped once in all the years I've been driving.  And that's because I was driving with my hazards on in my old Cav way back (I'd been to a cashpoint and parked on double-yellows and just forgot to switch them off!)
