    mis fire ?

as you guys probly know i drive a suzuki liana 1.6,

i was comin home today from college and i was going up a hill so i gave it abit of bout ,to keep up the speed , i got about halfway up and sudanly it lost power, and i mean it lost power alot of it !!!! =S

it was like like that the HT leads had come off two of the plugs, so i pulled over and had a look under the hood, expecting to see that the lead wer off or something, but they wer fine , =S NOTHING looked out of the ordenery at all

so i started it back up and gave it a revv,,

and it magicaly came back to life ,sort of  ^^

but it sound like the backbox has gone ,[ I can hear the baffals] when i revv it moving around ...

and it still has a small mis fire when bouting it !! , as you do...

got any ideas on what could be wrong ??

    Re: mis fire ?

When you say missfiring, is the car backfiring really loud or just spluttering and juddering or what??

There's a few different things that could be up with it innit homie.

When was it last serviced? sounds like the engine is being starved of either fuel or air. It could be that you need your plugs, filters and fluids changing. Have you removed the spark plugs to see if they're coked up? It could be just something as simple as a the plug on your distributor / coilpack is loose. Or your lambda sensor or maf sensor needs replacing.

Best bet is to get it serviced and see what it's like after that innit!

Its a splutter when i rev it quickly, but then i rev slowly it doesnt happen ,

and it ticks over very happy, you wouldnt even no anything is wrong if you drove it normaly, but that boring so i dont ^^

i took a day off college to try and find out what was wrong, i took every censer and connection off and clean them, and i tested the plugs and coil and the distribute, cleaned the injectors, re-gaped the plugs what i bourt only 3 week ago =/

i think it could be the master air flow censer as i disconected it and it didnt do make any difference and you would expect the engine to become worse, but it didnt it stayed exacaly the same, i even drove it and it didnt change... so yer =[????

and it last had a service 1 month ago and past with flyin colours

but it could be the fuel filter or th cat converter !!

its really got me stumped LOL and all the people at my college ^^

    Re: miss fire ?

how did you clean the injectors???also what kind of plugs are you using?if you are using irridium you could have damaged the plugs as they do not like to be gapped or cleaned.how did you test the distributor?remove and check for cracks(they will be very small)and corrosion and check your rotor arm as well.also check your ht leads

i cleaned the injectors with abit of injector clean and a rag then blowed thro them , i run champion plugs, i tested the HT leads and distributor/coil with a molty meter

the distributor/coil is bilt into the HT leads not a macanic system... so it doesnt have a rotor arm it has a crank censer...!! ^^

you see what i think is happening is that the air flow censer has gone ,and because i have a k+N FILTER its suckin in so much air and because the ECU doesnt no that the air micture ratio has changed it doesnt give any more fuel  making it lean and starving the engine of fuel ,...

+ i cleaned the plugs today and they did have a more sootyer diposit than normal, indercating that the engine is running lean  ... thats what i think it could be .. but as i say it could be anything???

    Re: miss fire ?

took the liana up to the suzuki garage up the road today and had it hocked up to the PC to check everything, two thing came up, 1 was a miss fire on the number 4 cylinder witch means that one of the two coils had started to go what is apparently a common problem with m16 engine after about 100,000 miles witch my liana has just done this week ^-^

, the second thing was the air temp senser witch was getting a wrong reading because the engine heat was fcukin up the temp of the air going into the intake ,so basically i need a filter heat shield

so it wasnt that bad realy ,only 35 squid on ebay for a new coil so that should come in a couple of day and a fiver for the air temp senser Yes ^^
